Letter from the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors

Dear MHS Supporters:

Two years ago the Monadnock Humane Society opened the doors to its new satellite location at 209 Concord Street in the Northgate Plaza. Though MHS has served the Peterborough area since its inception in 1875, this was our first opportunity to have a storefront and adoption center in town.  We believed this location would allow us to better serve Peterborough and the western part of the Monadnock region.  We are proud to say that over the two-year period we found homes for 148 cats, 41 kittens and 5 rabbits while sharing our mission with countless supporters and visitors.

These difficult economic times have been especially harsh on the Monadnock Humane Society.  Operation of our Swanzey adoption and retail center, boarding and daycare, training programs, surrender services and animal cruelty investigations necessitates a budget of more than a million dollars annually.  In order to continue these vital services something must give way and we have decided that we can no longer afford to operate the Peterborough location. So it is with a heavy heart that due to our tough financial situation, we have no option but to close the Peterborough facility effective March 31, 2012.

We want to stress that the Monadnock Humane Society will continue to serve Peterborough and the other 43 communities in the Monadnock region through our Swanzey location.  Our mission to support the community and its four-legged friends continues as always, just without the adoption center in Peterborough.  We plan to hold outreach and adoption events in the community at locations in the Peterborough area.  If you or someone you know would like to host such an event please call us at (603) 352-9011, x111.  In the meantime, please continue to visit and/or adopt the cats and buy animal supplies in the Peterborough center through the end of March.

You can stay current on upcoming events at MHS and our adoptable animals by visiting our website at www.monadpets.org.

Thanks for your continued support of the animals!

Sincerely,

Carol L. Armer, CEO

Adam Kossayda, Board Chair
