ADOPTION PROCESS
There are many ways to go about finding your new best friend. Whether you are just beginning the process or have been pounding the pavement looking for the perfect companion, we are here to help. MHS recognizes that the adoption process unfolds differently for each person depending on factors such as the adopter's lifestyle and personal preferences, whether or not children and/or other pets are part of the picture, and previous pet-owning experience. Here a few ways to get started.
Meet Your MatchTM
MHS implements the innovative program Meet Your MatchTM that was developed by certified applied animal behaviorist, Emily Weiss, PhD, CAAB. Meet Your MatchTM is a program of the ASPCA®. Complete the Meet Your MatchTM Survey along with your Adoption Application, which is available online. Our trained staff will discuss the survey and Meet Your MatchTM color result to help you find your perfect match!
The focus of this program is not to insist that you adopt a certain type of animal, but simply to better facilitate human-animal matchmaking that goes beyond physical appearance and focuses on important compatibilities between our two-legged and four-legged customers. For more detailed information, visit www.aspca.org/meetyourmatch.
Let Your Mouse Do the Searching
No matter what day or time it is, you can visit our adoptable animals by going on-line. MHS maintains an up-to-date list of available dogs, cats and small animals through our website, as well as Petfinder www.petfinder.com. Our list of animals is updated several times a day and we do our best to post photos and descriptions for all of our adoption candidates. One caveat: puppies and kittens are not always pictured because they tend to get adopted very quickly.
Give Us a Ring
Unsure about navigating the web? Or maybe you've found the perfect animal but need more details? Or perhaps you just want to confirm that a particular dog or cat is still available? Then give us a call at (603) 352-9011 x101. Although we are often busy assisting customers, our phone messages are checked throughout the day and we do our best to return all calls before the close of business. If you are directed to voicemail, please make sure to leave the name and/or description of the animal(s) you're calling to inquire about.
Visit our State-of-the-Art Facility
We are very proud of our animal sheltering facility, which was completed in 2000 and features spacious kennels with outside exercise yards, colony cat rooms and innovative caging for individual cats, visiting rooms in which adopters and animals can get to know one another, and many other modern amenities. We strive to be a place where our community can celebrate the human-animal bond and interact with animals in a fun, affirming environment. Stop by for a visit and see our animals up close and personal. We welcome the opportunity to tell you about our residents!
